Title: History of Wild and Scenic Rivers

Description: Currently, not one single river mile in the Gila is permanently protected as Wild and Scenic. Less than 1/10th of 1% of all New Mexico rivers are permanently protected. Originating in America's first Wilderness Area, it is time to permanently protect the Gila River and its main tributaries. Come learn about a citizens' proposal to permanently protect wild and scenic rivers in the Gila National Forest and ways that you can get involved.

Presenter Nathan Newcomer is a fifth generation New Mexican with 18 years of experience working on wilderness campaigns in the state of New Mexico. He has been a grassroots organizer, media director, and associate director at New Mexico Wilderness Alliance, having first joined the organization in 2002. Since moving to Silver City in 2013, he has been responsible for coordinating and organizing efforts to protect wild places and rivers in the Gila National Forest.

Free and open to the public. 12:00-1:00 in the ABC room of the Global Resource Center at corner of 12th & Kentucky. For more info, call 575-538-6835 or browse https://www.will.community/#/
